OS declaration options

Some of the data we are asking data providers to create includes spatial elments. For example, a boundary or outline of something in the physical world.

Data providers often create this data using software that uses Ordnance Survey base maps.

The Public Sector Geospatial Agreement (PGSA) means more often than not this is fine. However, we want to make sure that is the case and that everyone involved agrees.

We will, therefore, check what we are asking for meets the terms of the PSGA and check our assessment with Ordnance Survey.

We will do that as part of our data deisgn process.

We will set an OS declaration status for each planning consideration that has a spatial data element.

The status options are:

  • unknown - we haven’t done anything yet
  • checking with OS - we are doing the work and check with OS
  • free to use - we have determined it falls under this category
  • presumption to publish - we checked with OS and agreed its okay to publish
  • exemption - we’ve asked for an exemption and OS have agreed
  • other licence needed - we are working on an alternative
