Ancient woodlands

Research

These are the questions we answer during the Research stage.

Answering them wil help us learn more about the Ancient woodlands consideration, determine if a data standard is required and whether we know enough to move on to the next stage.

  • Do we understand the lifecycle of a Ancient woodlands?

    No

  • Do we understand how the data is created/produced?

We do not know how this data is created, further research is required.

  • Where will or should the data be used?

Planning authorities will be able to see and react very quickly to applications based in areas that have ancient woodland, which would essentially be off-limits, whilst also making the composition of their local plans faster as it will immediately remove some sites from the allocation process.

    • Ancient and veteran trees
    • Local plans - Ancient woodland is referenced a number of times in local plans, so we think that this consideration feeds into the process of creating a local plan.

  • Who are the statutory consultees for Ancient woodlands?

  • Other than the statutory consultees who are the primary users of Ancient woodlands? How do we expect them to use Ancient woodlands?

  • What are the planning needs for this data?

  • Who are the types of users who might benefit from having access to Ancient woodlands data?

  • What are some potential uses of Ancient woodlands data?

  • What's the value of adding Ancient woodlands data to the platform?

  • From what we have learnt so far are there any risks to making Ancient woodlands data available?

    N / A
