Roadmap

This roadmap highlights the data we're currently designing.

The roadmap is only a guide. It does not cover everything we do, and some things may change.

You can contact us if you have any questions about the roadmap, want to get involved in user research, or have any other suggestions.

What we're working on now

• Developing a standard for how planning applications are submitted and published as data
• Discovering the users and needs for data related to Spatial Development Strategies
• Identifying and designing more of the datasets needed by ALIGN for planning national infrastructure
• Improving our data design process to be simpler and easier to follow and participate in

Things we plan to do shortly

• Progress the specifications currently being tested by the Open Digital Planning community to becoming approved data standards:
  • Conservation Area
  • Article 4 Direction
  • Tree Preservation Order
  • Listed Building Outline
• Test the planning applications specifications with Users including LPAs, back-office system suppliers, statisticians, AI, and other users of the data
• Test and prove specifications related to design codes
• Design and collect more of the data needed to support faster plan-making

Things we’ve done recently

• Made the Planning Data (England) 2026 regulations, published the statutory guidance and updated the Check and Provide service to begin collecting plan-timetable data
